Gedat selected as nominee for County Treasurer appointment
The Oxford County Democrats met on Sunday, February 28 at Telstar Regional High School in Bethel and chose Roy Gedat of Norway as the nominee to recommend to Governor John Baldacci to fill the unexpired term of County Treasurer Mary Ann Prue of Rumford, who has resigned as of March 1 having moved out of the county. Gedat directed the Child Health Center, a multi-faceted social service agency in Western Maine for more than 20 years, and has solid administrative and fiscal management credentials and experience.
In other business, County Chair Cathy Newell reported on the January 31 caucuses, the campaign training conducted earlier in January, and on the successful candidate recruitment effort with qualified and energetic candidates seeking the Democratic primary nomination for all county and legislative offices up for election in 2010. Candidates in attendance reported on their campaigns including Rep. Matt Peterson District 92, Rep. Terry Hayes District 94, Russ Newcomb District 95, Pat Shearman Register of Deeds, and Sheriff Wayne Gallant. Jay Hardy circulated petitions for Libby Mitchell for Governor, and several candidates collected additional signatures on their petitions.
Plans are in the works for a Meet and Greet for Gubernatorial Candidates this spring, and for a meeting in March to present the Democratic Party Platform.
